I use Arctic Sliver as well as the cleaner they offer. After which I clean the old thermal paste off of the CPU & GPU's and apply a fresh coat of a good quality paste. To verify I take the heat sink off clean it and then using a pharmacist scale I compare it to a known good unit (same P/N) the bad unit should weigh less. If not the cooling liquid has leaked (sometimes you can see the wetness on the logic board). The heat should be fairly close to the same. I use a non-contact thermal probe to review the pipe from CPU and GPU to the fins. if the CPU is throttling due to excessive heat. The next thing is checking the heat sink heat pipe to see if it is transmitting the heat. There is (the excellent and IMHO underrated) Hot, from the lead developer at iMazing. While not as detailed as other tools (only a single aggregated CPU temp), it displays the scheduler/speed limit as well, e.g. In your case you may need to replace the fan units to the ones the logic board you are using would require. If you want something free, I would suggest Menu Meters. iStat Menus is definitely the best Ive ever used. Allows you to read the temperature and control fan speed (which you should imo, normal fan curve for macs is shit), and display it in the taskbar. Mac: Install the System Monitor menu bar application for continuous monitoring of your system. MacsFanControl (both on macOS and Windows). I often end up cleaning the dust build up in the fans as well as the logic board. Windows: Download and launch one of these free temperature monitors: SpeedFan, Real Temp, CPU Thermometer, or Core Temp. It does a better job of monitoring the thermal sensors and the fans than most everything else. I use this App to do that: TG Pro (full version). The next thing I look at is the fans to make sure they are working correctly. The things I look at is the running processes under Activity Monitor to make sure something isn't running wild (malware or someone has rooted the system). Or visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider. If I didn't know what else was at play here I would say this system was running hot. If you’re experiencing issues with your Mac laptop’s operating temperature, contact Apple. Never use third-party apps to diagnose possible hardware issues. If you use third-party apps that measure the temperature of your laptop, it’s important to understand that they don’t measure the external case temperature. If you click on the Hot menu app icon, then go to Temperature Sensors, you’ll see even more temperature readings from various internal components. Launch Hot and you’ll instantly see the temperature reading in the menu bar. If you have an Intel-based Mac, reset the SMC. Get the Hot app for Mac here from GitHub (find the latest available release to download here. If issues persist, close and open the lid on your laptop, or restart your computer. Look for malfunctioning processes that can put a significant load on the CPU and check for unexpected fan use. If your Mac laptop gets warm even when it isn’t doing tasks that require intensive calculations, or if it has fans that run for a long time, use Activity Monitor to check CPU activity. Only use Apple-authorised power adapters. If your Mac laptop has ventilation openings, don’t put anything into them. Don’t use your Mac laptop in your bed, on a pillow or under bedding. Use your Mac laptop on a stable work surface that allows for good ventilation. You should also use your Mac laptop where the relative humidity is between 0% and 95% (non-condensing). Don’t leave your Mac laptop in your car, because temperatures in parked cars can exceed this range. Use your Mac laptop where the ambient temperature is between 10° and 35☌ (50° and 95☏). Make sure you’ve installed all Mac software updates. Tips to manage the operating temperature: Use Terminal to Check Mac CPU Temperature. If your Mac laptop has fans, they’ll turn on automatically to cool critical components. This article will review the steps to check your Mac CPU temperature. Mac laptops have sensors that detect temperature changes inside your computer. Make sure you follow the user guide instructions regarding safety and handling. Application features : - Room temperature measurement. Mac laptops comply with all temperature limits that are set in national and international safety standards. Fortunately, you can easily keep tabs on your PC or Mac's CPU temperature by installing a third-party monitoring app. Thermometer room temperature measures ambient temperature inside and outside and gives daily weather forecasts. Find out how you can manage its operating temperature. If your MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro is heating up, move to somewhere cooler or out of direct sunlight. Your Mac laptop can get warm during normal use. Wait 5 seconds, and then turn on your Mac. Keep your Mac laptop within acceptable operating temperatures
